College work reference

Notebook

My journey of college through the weeks.....

This page will show all of the tracking and development of my games, as well as saying bugs that I ran into.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE NOTES I TOOK DURING THE YEAR

Week 1:

Insecticide

On the first week (Monday through to Thursday) I am working on Insecticide, including its planning and the actual game. I will finish all of the basic player mechanics as they are simple.

Week 2:

Insecticide

This week I am going to work on and finish the spider AI, as well as work on the map.

Week 3:

Insecticide

This week I am going to branch off the one room I made for the map, and add a running animation to the spider in which the animation speed changes depending on the velocity of the spider.

Week 4:

Insecticide

This week I am going to finish the map, as well as make it so the spider can hear sound.

Grow a Dragon Block

I started work on my next project called "Grow a Dragon Block" Which I will be making in ROBLOX as it being a community based game which is always growing in popularity, as well as the engine being simple but fun to use.

Week 5:

Insecticide

This week I am going to add a main menu, and a simple objective of finding a key. This will mean that the game is finished.

Grow a Dragon Block

I made many of the core mechanics, such as planting and growing the Dragon Blocks, as well as buying them. (None of these mechanics works properly)

Week 6:

Insecticide

Finished the written work for Insecticide

Grow a Dragon Block:

Bug fixing planting and growing (I'm remaking them to not actually grow but to have stages that create the illusion of growth), making it so you buy a seed rather than the dragon block. I am also making it so each one has a randomised value, which determines how much you get when you sell (I made a sell system). I am also going to make three buttons which teleport you to where you need. A buy, sell and plot button. (the plot button won't work as plots haven't been made)

Week 7:

Grow a Dragon Block

Working on making  it so when you plant a seed, it picks if the ball will be a one through to seven star dragon ball. The higher the star the higher the worth, however they take longer to grow.

Starting to work on the map with my two friends Evan and Hayden, which is based on Namek from Dragon Ball.

Week 8:

Grow a Dragon Block

Finishing working on the map, as well as starting work on a plot system which a player automatically claims and leaves upon joining and leaving the game. I'll also make the teleport to plot button work.

Week 9:

Grow a Dragon Block

Starting to work on a summon system where you summon Shenlong (Shenron in Dragon Ball) if you have one of the dragon balls, you go to Dendoo (dende in Dragon Ball) and he'll open a GUI where you can put them down.

Adding a flying nimbus when you press Left CTRL so you can move faster, it will also have a start-up animation and sound effects.

Week 10:

Grow a Dragon Block

Going to make it so you can wish for a new set of Dragon Balls when summoning Shenlong, I am also going to look through the game and fix any bugs.

I am unfortunately ill, so I will likely not be able to get all this done.

Week 11:

Grow a Dragon Block

I did get a few bugs, such as the flying nimbus start up animation being rotated incorrectly. As well as overall polishing the look of the texts of the dragon balls when growing by the end of the 10th week. However, I need to fix the sell menu showing other people's tools as well, as well as adding the wish system.

I am going to add summoning Shenron, as well as fixing the sell system.

Week 12:

Grow a Dragon Block

Last week I managed to finish the wish system (not added the wishes yet) and also fixed the sell system by remaking it.

This week I am going to add the Namek dragon balls, and maybe a cosmetic. I am also going to work on a cutscene for summoning Shenron

Week 13:

Grow a Dragon Block

You can now wish for the next set of Dragon Balls, as well as them having their own price and sell values (as well as their own effects).

I am going to add a visual effect for when the next set of Dragon Balls has not been unlocked yet.

Week 14:

Grow a Dragon Block

I am going to add a fly cosmetic variant for the speed up mechanic

Try and make it so you can wish with the Namek dragon balls, including a different dragon model (Porunga)

Week 15:

Grow a Dragon Block

I am going to get a PNG of Porunga to use as a template for the summoning system, I am going to separate the Earth and Namek dragon balls for summoning.

Polish the fly cosmetic for speed up mechanic

Week 16:

Grow a Dragon Block

I am going to do last week's work as I had fallen really ill, as well as make it so you can summon for the next set of Dragon Blocks if possible in the time frame.

Fix the summon menu not being scaled on smaller screens such as a phone.

Week 17:

Grow a Dragon Block

I am going to wrap up the progress on Grow a Dragon Block as it is at a releasable state, and try to get rid of all bugs.

Jump Warrior

My next game will be a 2D platformer/fighter game on Godot, I am going to work on my planner and GDD before doing any work.

Week 18:

Grow a Dragon Block

Done everything, game finished

Jump Warrior

I am going to work on a Trello for Jump Warrior, the rest of the written work is done.

Week 19 (Week break):

Jump Warrior

The Trello for Jump Warrior is done, and I have gathered all the assets for my game. I am going to make a map for it.

CHASE

While taking a break I planned out a good, yet simple survival game with my friend that I can make on ROBLOX. It is going to be heavily inspired by "Nextbots" on GMod. You will have to endure rounds and for each round you survive you will get currency, you will get currency if you lose but it will not be a lot. Not only that, but there will be a survival leaderboard which shows how many rounds someone has survived.

Week 20:

Jump Warrior

Map is done, I am going to add the mechanics etc.

This week we will also go on a school trip to Proto.

CHASE

Going to work on a round system as I had planned the whole game out during the holidays. This includes the special round nextbots.

Week 21:

Jump Warrior

I've added a basic movement system, I am going to add the kunai.

CHASE

Round system works, I am going to code an enemy AI.

Week 22:

Jump Warrior

I managed to make a kunai and a combat system, all I have to do is code the enemy AI and add the score system which I will do this week and the game is done.

CHASE

I coded the enemy AI, as well as added all planned nextbots. Now, I am going to implement the map change system.

Week 23:

Jump Warrior

I am going to add a timer, which once it hits 0 it gathers the total score and displays it.

CHASE

I am a bit late to this one, I have implemented a main menu, as well as data saving for a currency called "Cems", which you get for surviving rounds, 50 for surviving, 10 when you die. I am going to work on a Power shop and inventory, and if I have time I will add the abilities.

Week 24:

CHASE

I did not have time to add abilities, so I will add the abilities this week

OVERALL

If I have time, I will go through all of my written work and make sure it is up to date. If I do all of this and have nothing to do, I will start working on my pitch.

Week 25:

Jump Warrior

The game is in a buggy state as I updated Godot versions to 4.5, such as the kunai's not hit detecting. I am going to work on a fix for this.

Week 26:

Insecticide

I decided to add a hammer and boards that you need to take off as to make escaping more difficult.

Week 27:

Insecticide

I am going to add an animation of the boards falling off when you use the hammer, and the lock also falling off

Week 28:

Insecticide

I am going to wrap up all of the written work and update it for the new content.

Week 29:

CHASE

CHASE is in a releasable state for a demo, so I am pausing development on it to focus on written work.

OVERALL

I am going to work on the Pitch for Grow a Dragon Block with Evan.

Week 30 and onwards

I am going to finish the pitch, as well as finish the remaining bits of my B1 and B2 work.
